It’s National Waffle Day and we’re celebrating in a way that would make Eleven from Stranger Things proud. We upgraded from Eggos to Kodiak Cakes to bring you 5 ridiculously delicious (and healthy) waffle & ice cream combos that you should definitely try at home.
The impact a sprinkle of sea salt can make on a sweet dish is truly incredible. We all know achieving the perfect balance of sweet and salty is no easy task, but this pairing hits the nail on the head. Dark chocolate is naturally more bitter in taste than milk chocolate, but the addition of Sea Salt Caramel ice cream provides the perfect balance of flavors. The warm waffle topped with cool, decadent ice cream makes you want to smack your lips together it’s that good. Extra points for drizzling chocolate syrup on top!
2. Blueberry Waffle with Cold Brew Coffee
These two may make an unlikely pair, but the phrase “opposites attract” exists for good reason! Just think of this match-up as the ultimate breakfast concoction. Coffee is a must when starting the day, but if you’ve ever picked up a blueberry pastry (or any fresh, doughy good) to complement your morning coffee, then this one’s for you! The cup of decaf present in every serving of Cold Brew Coffee will awaken your taste buds just enough to properly savor the sweet blueberries packed in the waffles. Keeping in the style of breakfast, we turned this one into sandwich. Let’s just refer to this one as the breakfast of champions. 😉
3. Buttermilk & Vanilla Waffle sandwich topped with Brownies & Cookie Dough
The age-old debate of Chocolate vs Vanilla ends here. You can have both flavors and eat them too! In fact, it’s encouraged. 😉 These flavors are ice cream classics, so it’s only right to pair them together. Plus, there’s the added bonus of brownie and cookie dough chunks mixed in too. Can you say drool worthy?
4. Cinnamon Waffle and Red Velvet Ice Cream ice cream sandwich
Prepare yourself for a ton of flavors swirling around this stacked ice cream waffle sandwich. The sweet Red Velvet base is highlighted by a kick of cinnamon from the waffles and finished off with the contrast of Red Velvet’s rich cream cheese swirl. If you have a sweet tooth and an appreciation for complex flavor profiles, try this out!
5. Chocolate Chip Waffle topped with Movie Night
There’s no such thing as too much chocolate and this rings especially true when it comes to a Chocolate Chip Waffles x Movie Night collab. The chocolate chips in the waffles combine with the rich chunks in Movie Night to make a chocolate lovers dream come true. But the best part of this combo is that it appeals to all audiences–not just chocoholics! Movie Night’s popcorn base and thick swirl of sweet caramel add the perfect finishing touches to this delicious masterpiece.
Spend National Waffle Day in style by trying out any (or ideally all) of these waffle and ice cream combos! Be sure to share your dishes with us by tagging @eatenlightened and @kodiakcakes. Happy celebrating!
